Headlights

I have decided what I am going to do with headlights on the car – I have purchased HID conversion lights that use the stock mounting hardware, but they have HID bulbs and reflection housings.

So here is what the care looks like before and after.

I am going to eliminate the stock turn signals.  Then push the fog lights out wide on the car and convoert them in to turn signals, much like the late 60′s Camaro.  I am not totally sold on the venting ideas on each side, but I will need to create some sort of air flow for the Porsche oil cooler.

Headlights

I have found the headlights that I want to use for the car.  This should allow me to keep the stock Corvair buckets, mounting hardware and bezels, but bring a more modern look to the front of the car.  This Ford Fairlane was build by the Ring Brothers in Spring Green WI.  Their use of a modern headlight within the constraints of the original mounting hardware showed me a solution for the front of my car.

Shop Manual

I purchased a shop manual for the Porsche this past weekend, knowing that assembly could be tricky without it.  1500 page manual should do it I think, anything beyond that will take tapping someone on the shoulder and asking for help.

These big meats will fit under the car.

Christmas is coming and I hope that Santa puts some rubber in my stocking :)  I had a set of tires like this on my Nissan 300ZX and I LOVED them.  The price on these things are incredible, and I am 99% sure they will fit under the car just fine.  I spent hours measuring last night.

- Front Wheel: 18×8 inch
- Front Tire: 225/40 ZR18 Sumitomo HTR Z II – $102.00 per tire from Tire Rack

- Rear Wheel: 18×10 inch
- Rear Tire: 285/30 ZR18 Sumitomo HTR Z II – $137.00 per tire from Tire Rack

The donor car arrive late Sunday night, I was sitting watching TV and received a phone call that the truck was 15 minutes away.  Brendan being the great friend that he is came over to help us push the car in to the garage.  With two flat driver’s side tires, it required more man power to get the car up the hill and in to the garage.  There are a few items missing from the car compared to the pictures, so I will need to contact LA Dismantlers today, but I am very pleased with what I see so far.  Here we go dad, the creative thinking about where to cut begins.

Apparently the shipping company does not have any trucks going from LA to Wisconsin right now … crazy cause I thought EVERYONE in LA wanted to come to Wisconsin.  Ha ha.  So, my little car is sitting in a warehouse waiting for a truck that is headed east.

Along with the ability to cut both cars up, I need to be able to weld them together.  So for that I am picking up another Miller product, an argon gas wire-feed welder.

I am purchasing the tool to cut everything up this week, a Miller Plasma Cutter.  With this plasma cutter I should be able to cut through the two cars like a hot knife cutting through butter.  I cannot wait to play with my new toy.  The next item is to purchase the tool that will weld the two cars together :)

Still Waiting

The Porsche is still sitting at the trucking company in Cali … still waiting for it to be loaded on a truck. They are hoping to have a truck that will head east yet this week …
